"It's a powerful thing to see two people who at the beginning of their first coaching session might approach each other both thinking:
'What can I have in common with this person? How will I get through these 45 minutes?'
realize that there are any number of important things that bring them together in some way."
—WCC coach

We encourage you to register now for spring 2013 coaching; we will put you in touch with the site coordinator at the school of your choice to work out your exact team assignment.

In early Feb-April, 60+ WCC volunteers will coach about 300 eighth grade students in 10 English classes thanks to the generosity of the AMS PTA, Albany Rotary, the Albany Education Fund, and individual donors. Coaches help students with their I-Search projects, research papers on a topic of the students’ choice. This limited engagement is a great way to get involved as a WCC coach. Be amazed at students’ topics and creativity.

WriterCoach Connection returns to Berkeley High, where the program was founded, to work with three small schools and twice the number of BHS students served last year.  WCC coaches will support all freshmen and sophomores at the Academy of Medicine and Public Service (AMPS), previously known as Community Partnerships Academy. In addition, following a successful pilot program last year, Green Academy has invited WCC to bring writing coaches to all its sophomore, junior and senior English classes. We're also pleased to be returning to Communication Arts and Sciences to work with two freshman classes on Tuesdays.

“WCC is a phenomenal resource,” says a BHS teacher who deeply appreciates WCC support. Coaches work with 1-2 students for 25-50 minutes each. With the expanded program at BHS this year, coaches have many options—Tuesdays,Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays—and more coaches are needed than ever! Please join us and tell your friends about this great way to support local students and schools.

BHS is a convenient location for Cal students.
