"This is an organization I totally believe in. I donated to Writer Coach Connection again this year, because it really works. The statistics on improved writing skills, and the feedback from principals, teachers, and students are fantastically positive.  And people who volunteer to coach kids in their own community feel so good about the difference they are making.  If you think you might be able to donate some time to help kids in our area become the best writers they can be (and make sure the next generation of voters can read and write effectively), contact WCC.  This is how the world gets better."

Donations and Gifts That Help Students and Schools

Now you have two great ways to support WCC's work: make a one-time or recurring donation or visit our new Online Gift Catalog and pick from 12 gifts to give family and friends. Rather than exchanging knick-knacks, you can give gifts for birthdays, special occasions, and holidays that honor your loved ones' interest in helping students overcome obstacles to success.

Every gift represents a donation to WCC's overall mission. Your contribution means that WCC will continue to provide one-on-one attention to public-school students, helping them improve their writing and critical thinking skills.

Why Does a Volunteer Program Need Funds?

Although our writing coaches are volunteers, Community Alliance for Learning hires professionals to ensure high-quality WriterCoach Connection program standards and a high level of participant satisfaction. These professional services include:
  • Program development, which includes creation and updating program materials and collaboration with school administrators and teachers to plan and implement the program at each school.
  • Volunteer recruitment from the community, colleges, parent groups and local organizations.
  • High-quality coach training for new volunteers and periodic in-service coaching workshops.
  • Professional development and program orientation for teachers.
  • One or more site coordinators at each school to develop coach teams and manage program logistics, to communicate teacher assignments to coaches, and to supervise and support classroom coaching.
  • Program evaluation and assessment of student writing progress.
  • CAFL oversight to insure the program meets or exceeds expectations.
Other expenses include training materials, program supplies, and essential overhead costs such as insurance, bookkeeping, and tax preparation to maintain the nonprofit status of Community Alliance for Learning.

Because of the high value of the volunteer contribution, every dollar donated to Community Alliance for Learning reaps more than double its value in quality services to schools.
