"85% of my low achieving (D and F) students went up one grade level, largely due to the work they did with their writer coaches."
—Kenny Kahn, English teacher, El Cerrito High School

Planned Giving

Planned giving enables you to help ensure that in the future, WriterCoach Connection volunteers will still be sitting side-by side with students, just as they are today, to help the students develop writing and critical thinking skills.

What exactly is planned giving?
Planned giving is a pledge to make a future gift to WriterCoach Connection™ through the program's parent organization, the nonprofit Community Alliance for Learning. (Federal Tax ID: 91-2144555.)

Why do it?
You make a planned gift to express ongoing support for a program you believe in, so that WriterCoach Connection will be there for students and teachers in years to come.

A planned-giving donation to Community Alliance for Learning for the WriterCoach Connection program makes you a Gold Pen Sponsor, an honored invitee to special WCC events and celebrations.

How do you plan a gift?
There are two basic ways:
  1. You can leave a gift as part of your estate plan.
  2. You can make a gift that takes effect while you live.
The first basic way, in your estate planning, enables you to make a planned gift through:
  • Your will or living trust.
  • Your retirement plan.
  • Your life insurance policy.
The second basic way, while you are living, enables you to make a planned gift:
  • With workplace giving.
  • Through matching gifts.
  • To honor a special occasion.
Of course, you may want to consult your legal or estate planning professional before deciding whether or how to make a planned gift to Community Alliance for Learning.

What are the tax implications?
Planned gifts to Community Alliance for Learning are tax-free. You retain complete control over your assets while you are living.

How much should you plan to give?
A gift in any amount to Community Alliance for learning for the WriterCoach Connection program makes a difference to our students and teachers. You may leave a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or what remains after other bequests have been satisfied.

If you have further questions about supporting WCC with planned giving, please contact Community Alliance for Learning board president Kathy Kahn (510) 524-9270 or simply use our Contact Us page and we'll be in touch shortly.
