"This is a program that was well conceived, is well run, and is delivering results. I'm proud to be a part of it."
—Jane Sinton, newly trained writer coach, fall 2011

                                        What our volunteers say:
                                        • "This is such a well-run program, and such a rewarding use of my time. I want to get more friends involved.”
                                        • “This is one of the best experiences of my time as a student at Cal. Thank you for this great program!"
                                        • "Many of us can recall a single sentence or piece of advice that some adult told us when we were young that left a lasting impression on our minds, perhaps on our lives. The adults, however, seldom know when they've planted such a seed. WriterCoach Connection, in my view, offers a rich garden where the guidance of adults may enjoy a much higher yield."

You don’t need to be a teacher, writer or editor to register to become a coach. Our WCC volunteers come from many walks of life—from college students to retirees. If you enjoy working with young people, value good writing and clear thinking, and want to foster success in public school students, then WCC coaching is for you. If you are a parent or guardian, you will acquire skills you can use at home to help your own children.

                                        Commitment
Volunteers make a commitment to coach one class period (one to two hours) per week, during the school day, and coach two to four weeks per month during the school year. Teachers and students count on you, so please take the commitment to heart.

                                        Training
The WCC coach training will give you the skills and confidence to work effectively with student writers, and you will have on-going support from your site coordinator. We offer several training times and locations to accommodate most schedules. In early fall and spring, coaches participate in supportive coach workshops for feedback, coaching tips, reflection, and review.

                                        Other Ways to Volunteer
We're a small, low-budget organization, and our talented volunteers help us out with a variety of tasks in addition to coaching: publicity, Web management, fundraising, and more. If you’d like to help, please contact us.
